From the recording One Mistake
I wrote this song almost 10 years ago at a time when I was very frustrated with the lyric quality of country music I was hearing on the radio. I told myself “surely you can do better than this stuff about tailgates, big tires, bikini's, and beers” (though I do like beer:). So, I set out to write a song with thoughtful lyrics but also found myself mocking in a less than flattering way - which I did attempt to tone down a bit. This song is a relationship breakup song - and I realized it is autobiographical. This song was about my breakup with country music - it’s a complicated relationship to say the lease.
Lyrics
You lead me out to the edge of the night
Then leave me hanging on for dear life
You drag me out like long cigarette
To wake in the ash of morning regret
You make the rules to your game I can't win
So you're one mistake I can't make again.
